Charles University has 17 independent faculties and each faculty has its own specific admission procedure, requirements, and application deadline. In most cases, our admissions are based on evaluationg the candidate’s overall profile though some programmes may require an entrance exam. That can be typically done online and for medicine, even in-person both in Czechia and abroad. In sum, Charles University has no central Admission Office.
Foundation programmes are offered by our Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies and some faculties, too. They are not compulsory but they may help the candidate to prepare for the entrance exams, visa procedure, cultural adjustment, and the academic rigor Charles University expects from its students.
1. Choose your study programme

2. Submit the application(s)
Submit your application online directly via the catalogue. You can easily submit multiple applications as well. While some necessary documents can be submitted later, after you submit the application, make sure all required materials are provided by the specified deadlines.
A high school diploma is not required at the time of application but must be submitted before enrolment.
3. Pay the application fee
After paying the application fee, your submission will be processed by the faculty’s Admission Office. Please refer to the application deadlines in our catalogue to ensure timely submission.
4. Entrance exam (if required)
Certain programmes may require an entrance examination, while other assess applicants solely based on the candidate's profile and submitted documents. All requirements and exemptions are detailed in each programme’s listing within our catalogue.
If an entrance exam is required, wait for your Invitation Letter. Entrance exams can be organised in-person (via a representative abroad or directly in Czechia) or online, depending on the chosen programme.
5. Recognition of your previous education
If you are still working towards your certificates and diplomas, don't forget to submit them to the faculty by the enrolment date at the latest. Learn more about the diploma recognition process.
6. Letter of Acceptance
Upon successful evaluation of your application and/or passing the entrance exams, you will receive an official Letter of Acceptance. This document is essential for your visa application (if needed) and further enrolment procedure. Learn more about the student visa.
7. Enrolment and matriculation
The date of your enrolment is determined by the faculty's Admission Office. After the commencement of the academic year, students are welcome to join their first official academic ceremony – matriculation.
